Quiz Question (2)
Can you complete this children's rhyme with the 'literary' last line?
(Of course you could Google it, but you wouldn't do that, would you?)
Vintery, mintery, cutery, corn,
Apple seed and apple thorn;
Wire, briar, limber lock,
Three geese in a flock.
One flew east,
And one flew west,
And .......?
If you need a clue I have posted one in the comments and will post the answer there in a few days, Bazza.

It was made into one of the most successful all-time movies in the 70's.
Oh, this one is just too good to pass up. Not only one of the most successful, but one of the greatest movies ever made.
One flew over the cuckoo's nest.
:)
Well done, serenity. People on this side of the Atlantic are not so familiar with that rhyme although, of course, they know the movie.
One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest. I googled it. I mean the film. 1975

alex: I looked on the internet for pictures but for some reason their site concentrates on the rooms! Do you know the place; once seen it's never forgotten. I will look out for something interesting to post on your New York Bathrooms site. Trouble is, I usuually don't have a camera with me in the bathroom!
Hello sir;
Le me try.
The third one began to fly in north south direction.
Thanks for the list .I will try to see all those.
I remember the film but not the rhyme.
Nurse Ratchett (spelling?) -I have met one or two like her when I was on one of my wild goose chases.
You won't believe it, but one flew over the cuckoo's nest was my guess, tho it was by 'uncertain reflex of mind', I have to admit I do not remember the rhyme itself. I did not know that movie title came from the rhyme, this adds to the thoughts about the movie itself. A cult object, that movie.
I think I married nurse ratchett a few times...thought I could rehabilitate her, hah, got lobotomized instead, but it grew back. lol.
Great one Bazza, sorry to be so late but I see you are having fun, lol.
ha, i got it! i only guessed right because the movie's so well known and i'm wicked smart about literature and suchlike. never heard the actual rhyme before.
as for shakespeare, i do like the sonnet i copied into my comment- it's my favorite. but i find it funny to imagine the object of that sonnet's response to it.
deepak: Good try, Deepak. You were the only person to actually take a guess. Of course, your answer would not 'scan' very well into the rhyme but that's ok.
rob: She was Nurse Ratched. I was quite surprised to learn that Cuckoo's Nest was allegorical and that she represented the all-powerful but supposedly benevolent communist state.
jim: That's a brilliantly funny comment. You seem really laid back about it. Sometimes humour is the best way do deal with painful subjects!
vive: You're 'wicked smart' alright Vive! I thought the same thing as you about the sonnet that you included in that comment. I wonder if the poem swung it for him, or did he just get a black eye!
Bazza,
I am honored for your link and to be a guest in your blog home, and humbly thank you. It is a blessing and a joy to have yours on my site.
Peace, joy, well being, and a fun-filled, love-filled weekend to you.
P.S. I'm glad you have trouble acting your age! I love your humor; always brings a smile to my face.
well..if I had signed on here sooner, I'm certain I would have been a big winner..I know the rhyme and I know the movie.
Gotta love that movie!
john h: Thanks for visiting. Don't worry, there weren't any prizes! Please come back another time.(I've seen your comments around the blogoshere)
I saw "Mother Goose" and immediately thought of a Jetho Tull song from the Aqualung album.

Great clue...though I did finish the poem correctly and though I have read Ken Kesey's book, I confess I never knew the title was drawn from this little nursery rhyme. Fascinating. I am going to send this link to my daughter who is reading this in freshman seminar.
sharon: Hi. Thanks for visiting. I looked at your blog and read quite a lot of it and I was just thinking."This looks like a well-written and interesting blog but it's mostly about US internal politics and not much of interest for me in the UK". Then I came across the post about Paul McCartney's studio and learned something I didn't know! Mind you, I don't read The Sun, I'm much too posh for that. You are welcome any time. PS: I remember 'Aqualung' too!
gem: Hello Gem, I am delighted to learn that your daughter is reading 'Mother Goose' at college!
Hah! Bazza. You're a funny one! She's reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and doesn't like her pretentious classmates a bit. When I sent her the link to this entry, she completed the rhyme right away, but not because she studies nursery rhymes in college. That was high school. ;)
